We know that when applying to medical, dental, or any kind of healthcare school, a healthy portion of your Curriculum Vitae will need to be dedicated to volunteer work and community service.  Well, we have that covered as well!  Below is just a small sampling of the volunteering opportunities available in and near the Sacramento region, and the list will be expanded as more opportunities arise.

The American Red Cross 2021
The American Red Cross is closely monitoring the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and preparing to carry out our lifesaving mission in the event of any possible disruptions, as well as supporting public health agencies to help communities prepare.
Our need for volunteers is constant and continues to evolve as we navigate this health crisis. Please rest assured that we are working with public health officials to help keep local communities and our volunteer safe. Volunteer opportunities include supporting blood donations and delivering much-needed services to your community. We even have a wide variety of remote (work-from-home) opportunities available.

Volunteer at the UC Davis MIND Institute
Volunteers work with the MIND Institute's Child Life Specialists.  Primary duties include providing play activities and supervising children who visit the research clinic and Massie Family evaluation clinic.  Other volunteer duties may include maintaining the play and common areas; cleaning toys; preparing for and staffing special events; performing administrative tasks; and assisting other departments with special projects. Volunteers may also gain educational experience by observing children in research or evaluation settings.

Prep Médico: Navigating Your Path Into Medicine
Each year, the UC Davis School of Medicine and The Permanente Medical Group offer the Prep Médico program.  It’s a six-week summer residential program for freshman and sophomore college students (including Community College students), and it seeks to build the next generation of physicians committed to serving and advancing the health underserved communities. And it’s not only free, and not only is housing and transportation provided, but you get hands-on experience that’s hard to get otherwise.  This is a seriously awesome program!
