UCSF Med School Trip

Join AMSA ARC for the annual visit to UCSF Medical School, one of the top medical schools in the country, hosted by UCSF Medical Students.

MORE THAN A TOUR

We are not just going for a regular tour, but much more! We will spend the day sitting in with medical students during their lectures and small-group collaboration sessions. We will have lunch with the medical students; take a student-led tour of the school, including the anatomy lab; and attend a workshop on anatomy. The icing on the cake will be an admission workshop led by the Dean of Admission at UCSF Medical School organized especially for us! This is an day you should not miss.
When and Where

We will be taking a comfortable bus from ARC to UCSF. You can rest, listen to music, read, and relax. We will be returning to ARC on the bus as well.

Date: Thursday May 29, 2008;
Time: 4:30 am [Leaving from ARC Parking Lot E];
Location: Pick up at the ARC Parking Lot E;
Return Time: 7pm at ARC.

Spring 2008 AMSA ARC Members: $10;
Non-AMSA ARC Members: $20.

The price includes bus transportation from ARC to UCSF and back and also lunch; you will be on your own for dinner. This is a great deal, since there is a $9 toll fee and gas costs $4.15/gal these days... Overall, the actual cost of the outing -- a 200-mile round trip -- averages about $40.00.

DETAILS

1.You will have the chance to meet a few hundred medical students at one of the top med schools in the country;
2. You will also meet their faculty as well. The UCSF faculty are practicing physicians, teachers, admission committee members, and interviewers for the medical school;
3. You will also attend a presentation from the Dean of Admission at UCSF and will be able to ask him any questions you might have about the admission process. This is a unique opportunity reserved for us!;
4. You will also get a tour of the school, and attend a presentation on Anatomy and other topics the UCSF Medical Students have prepared for you;
5. Please bring the attached form filled out with you Thursday May 29. You will need the release of liability to board the bus;
6. We expect you to act as adults. You will be sitting in lectures where medical students learning. You cannot interrupt the class or act not interested. You will also be expected to follow instructions regarding group activities. While you might not understand some of the topics during the lectures, this will be an opportunity for you to see what medical school is like. The UCSF Medical Students are inviting us as their guests and are devoting a great deal of their own time for us. Please be respectful to them and their time. If you are not able to adhere to this clause, please do not sign up and don't attend the trip. If you break the rules, then you will be asked to leave the premises and meet us on the way back home.

NOTE

You are expected to leave with us at ARC at 4:30 am. You cannot meet us at UCSF on your own, since it will be difficult for us to find you and we do not have a specific drop-off location. You also have to be with our group that has signed up to participate in all the events. We are being hosted by the UCSF medical students and Dean of Admission. We understand that some of you would want to spend the night in San Francisco or do other things, but we are going as a community. Plus you save money on gas and toll road.
