Dr. Joad is a former community college student who found her path to medicine there. She is the first ever Dean of Diversity at UC Davis School of Medicine & Health Systems. She is also a specialist in Pediatric Critical Care and takes care of the sickest babies in Northern California. Dr. Joad is also trained in lung pharmacology and specializes in the effects of secondhand smoke on children's lungs. Her research interests include the effects of ozone and environmental tobacco smoke on the development of asthma, and how nerves control the lung. She is also investigating detrimental effects of secondhand smoke before and after birth on pediatric lung airways.
